NGS Application-Specific Training
The CGI holds hands-on, laboratory training for many applications supported by the Center equipment and staff, including NextGen sequencing applications such as RNA-seq and WGS.
Individuals (students, faculty and staff) across all UCONN campuses are eligible to participate in CGI sponsored training. All training fees go directly toward instrument maintenance, service contracts and reagents/consumables for training. Participants can bring a sample of their own for training if desired, allowing for participant data collection that can be used as proof of principle or preliminary data for grant submissions, etc. Trainings are offered throughout the year based on demand for specific instrumentation and will be advertised via email announcement and on the CGI website.

Training for Facility Access
UConn’s Center for Genome Innovation (CGI) is a cross campus core facility that supports researchers across all UConn campuses in next generation sequencing applications across the tree of life. We also have historically provided access to our core laboratory space for researchers that do not have access to molecular tools in their home laboratory. Due to a dramatic increase in requests for molecular lab access, the CGI is implementing a fee-for-service training and reservation process. Prior to access to the space, we will require all researchers to complete a 2-hour facility-use training session that will cover use and requirements for basic laboratory tools to reduce incidents of damage to facility equipment. These training sessions will be regularly scheduled approximately once a month, with a change in cadence to meet any increase or reduction in demand. In this session, we will cover use of general molecular lab equipment (micropipettors, tube and plate centrifuges, thermocyclers). Participants that demonstrate proficiency in equipment use by the end of the workshop will be permitted to schedule times to use these pieces of equipment and benchspace in the future.
The cost of training is $100/participant. Participants should come with an idea of what type of experiments they are interested in doing and a general timeline for using the space. The facility scientist leading the workshop will be available to discuss specific techniques and sample processing for each project.
Computational Biology Workshops
The Computational Biology Core (CBC) offers workshops in many NGS data analysis applications, such as ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Single Cell RNA-seq, Genome Assembly, Genome annotations, RAD-seq, variant detection, RNA-seq, and introduction to R. Please see our website for current workshop offerings. The CBC also offers public office hours in the form of Data Therapy Sessions and one-on-one meetings.
