The mission of the Center for Genome Innovation (CGI) in the Institute for Systems Genomics (ISG) is to provide expertise in state-of-the-art genome technologies while facilitating genomics research for faculty and students across the University of Connecticut campuses. Our services and facilities support both internal and external users from other academic institutions, non-profit agencies and biotech companies.
With our main laboratory on the Storrs campus and a smaller auxiliary laboratory space in Farmington, the CGI’s infrastructure offers a diverse portfolio of genomics applications and instrumentation, including liquid handling robotics and microfluidics, multiple next generation sequencing platforms (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore Technologies and PacBio), select Infinium arrays, digital droplet PCR, and all ancillary equipment needed for QC and library preparation. In 2025, the microbiome-focused MARS facility joined the CGI, strengthening our portfolio of next-generation sequencing applications and support.
The CGI provides support from initial project planning through data generation. Data from the CGI flows seamlessly to the end user or through our Computational Biology Core, a nexus for computational biology support.
